Weathered

I got this solid oak chest on CL a few weeks ago. It needed all of the drawer bottoms replaced and my husband had to totally re-build the bottom drawer. It needed a little more work than I would have liked, but I really liked the size and shape of it and the fact that it was old! I love old stuff. :) I thought about stripping and re staining the top, but after painting it first I liked that look better. I was going for the vintage farm house look. I even found a key at an antique store that works on the drawers. It's actually a little more brown than it looks in the pictures. I used ASCP in Old White as a base coat, then painted CeCe Caldwell's Seattle Mist (which is my new favorite color) on top, sanded down, and sealed with wax. Seattle Mist is a really pretty gray/brown.

My Newest Pieces

This dresser I just picked up today from a really sweet couple on CL. It's solid with no veneer! Yea! I may even keep the same hardware on the bottom three drawers.

This one I also got from CL a couple of weeks ago. I think it wants to have a really distressed farmhouse look. Maybe restain the top a dark walnut (my favorite). :)

The Nightmare

I love the way this piece turned out, but boy did it give me fits! It almost ended up on the curb twice. I bought it off of CL and the guy wanted to meet me with it. Long story short he had to wait on me a little bit (his fault) :) and because of that I didn't want to say no. Had it been at his house I would have turned it down. It had major veneer problems and all of it but the top had to come off. I wasn't skilled in using a chisel so it was pretty gouged up. After a lesson from my husband on using a chisel and lots of wood filler later this is what I came up with. I have been waiting for the right piece to try out the Union Jack on and the size of this one fit the bill. I love all the ones I've seen out there but this one from reckless glamour was my favorite by far! Grey and white are my favorite colors. I used ASCP in Graphite, Paris Grey mixed with Graphite, and Old White on this one. Here are some more pics:

Drexel Dresser

I knew I wanted this one as soon as I saw it! It was big and beautiful and I knew it could look even better. :) I had to come back for it a couple of days after I paid because there was no way the guy in the store and I were going to lift it into my van. It took my husband, dad, mom, and me to get it out of the van and into the house - this thing weighs a ton! It's solid wood with dovetail construction and a drexel on top of that. The top stripped like a dream, just came off like butter after 15 minutes sitting with Klean Strip on it. I stained the top a dark walnut, added 3 coats of poly for durability, and painted the body with a mix of ASCP French Linen, Graphite, and Old White. The back plates behind the glass knobs are original, but the rest of the original hardware I thought dated it so everything else except the knob on the door is new. This piece would be beautiful as a buffet or a dresser. Now to the before and afters:

My favorite piece so far!

I love casters and this is my first piece with them. It makes moving the furniture around so easy and I just like the look of them. I can't find my before picture, but there is a picture of it here at the end of the post. Here are the afters:

I painted this in ASCP's French Linen (the darker color) the and a mix of Coco, Graphite, and Old White for the stripes (the lighter color) and sealed with clear wax. The top two drawers had paint splatter or spray paint in them so I also painted the inside of the drawers with French Linen. I didn't want them to be perfectly painted so I just kind of painted this way and that with the brush and left a little wood showing through here and there. The top was striped and stained with Minwax dark walnut and 3 coats of satin poly was put over it. The pinboard was made by transferring graphics from The Graphics Fairy with the Citrisolve method onto drop cloth. I used spray adhesive to attach the material onto foam board and framed it.
